i watched it growing up but not consistently

I watched it up until a big filler arc in Shippuden a decade or so back. By then I was sick of fillers and just dropped the show until now! So I'm rewatching it all (except the filler arcs, cause not this time) and continuing onwards!

I don't think the author had any idea how to use her early on other then be a love interest. So she adds nothing when Sasuke, Naruto and Kakashi are able to strategize on their own. Other then exist as a source of tension and another point of view.

Which is a shame, I think she could have been written as a great support character if she had a skill to fill in a gap in the team. She could have been purely support. Being a healer. Or possessed some kind of shield no jutsu to block attacks (but could wear off and has a small proximity).
